New England Patriots
Everyone seems to want to put Newton on the Patriots, but he’s not exactly a fit for the offense. The Patriots like accurate quarterbacks in their scheme. Newton is not that.
Of course, the Patriots could change their offense that’s been pretty successful for the last 20 years — much of that due to Tom Brady of course– but there are other problems with this fit. The Patriots have almost zero cap room. They can’t offer anything close to what other suitors may be able to give to Newton.
Newton could just say he’s signing for cheap and the Patriots could work some cap magic to get him on the team, but the number might not be a fit. What’s is Newton going to sign for $15 million?
Still, Newton could do wonders for his career with a short stint in New England. The Patriots may want a two or three deal just in case. Something team-friendly that gives them an opt-out. It’s an option.
