The 2019 Doak Walker Award watch list member rushed 125 times for 542 yards and five touchdowns while also catching eight passes for 77 yards and a score. Starting running back is taken with David Johnson, and Duke Johnson has the complementary, pass-catching back role manned. However, the club parted ways with Taiwan Jones in free agency. Phillips would have to battle with Buddy Howell and Karan Higdon for Jones’ spot, and he was only on the roster for his special teams prowess.
