Quarantined QB?
The quick ramp-up period and training camp sessions in the NFL over the past few weeks and next couple are all because of the obvious, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic still striking the United States. But even with sports returning and training camps remaining relatively coronavirus clear, one question has popped up in regard to the most important position on the field. Should teams such as the Bills quarantine a quarterback?
Well, McDermott gave some insight into that. He did not commit to saying the Bills plan to do so, but he did say… it’s not a no via the Rochester D&C.
“I think that’s something that we should consider. It’ll be interesting to see how different teams handle that through the league, in terms of pulling one quarterback out of the group and isolating them from the other quarterbacks,” McDermott said.
The coach really didn’t give any thought into who that guy might actually be, though. When discussing the three behind Josh Allen… which includes Matt Barkley, Jake Fromm and Davis Webb, all McDermott has said to this point is that it’s hard to get all four guys reps because everything is aimed toward getting Allen ready for opening day.
“That’s a challenge when you have four… it’s good to have four, don’t get me wrong, but we have a limited amount of reps. You have to find a way to get them all enough reps to evaluate them,” McDermott said. “All three of them bring different things to the table.”
That’ll be interesting to see. Perhaps the fourth or third guy just does meetings via Zoom but otherwise stays away? With how MLB teams have conducted their season, it’s a possibility. Some teams in baseball have had to postpone their season because players have tested positive and outbreaks have gone through locker rooms. If the Bills don’t have anybody ready… who would play QB? Maybe Hyde? He hasn’t done so since high school, but…
