No. 1 Star: Dillon Gabriel, QB
Dillon Gabriel’s value to this team has been recognized by everyone following his performance against Kansas. This offense looked fantastic with competent quarterback play.
He and his offensive teammates torched the Jayhawks for 403 passing yards and two touchdowns. Gabriel threw a pick and lost two fumbles, but turnovers haven’t been the thing to worry about with Gabriel all year. In fact, it took till the Sooner seventh game of the season for Gabriel to throw an interception.
He looked in command, never flustered, and seemed to be having fun out there.
No. 2 Star: Eric Gray, RB
Eric Gray is having himself a season. He’s also very likely making himself some money along the way as well ahead of the 2023 NFL draft. Gray has delivered this year after an underwhelming 2021, which saw him slip behind Kennedy Brooks.
There’s no shame in that, as Brooks had a fantastic career in Norman. But it’s become apparent Gray was underutilized last year.
Against Kansas, he ran for 176 yards on 20 carries and scored two touchdowns. He’s shifty, he runs with good pad level, he can catch the ball, and he has excellent contact balance.
He was dominant against Kansas.
