3 regrettable decisions the Cardinals made in 2019

Going 5-10-1 in 2019, they obviously didn’t make all good moves, but these moves were definitely ones they probably would like to do over.

Signing Terrell Suggs instead of Shaquil Barrett or Markus Golden

It was a great story when he came home to sign with the Cardinals on what was essentially a one-year, $7 million deal. He and Chandler Jones were to be the sack brothers and terrorize opposing quarterbacks. He even had two sacks in the season opener.

However, he only had half a sack after Week 6 and eventually asked to be released so he could play for a winner. He finished with 5.5 sacks.

The Cardinals signed him instead of bringing back Golden, the team’s second-round pick in 2015, or Barrett, who played previously for the Denver Broncos under Cardinals defensive coordinator Vance Joseph when he was head coach in Denver.

Golden was signed by the New York Giants for $3.75 million for one year and finished with 10 sacks, playing in a 3-4 defense.

Barrett, on the other hand, signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for $4 million and led the league with 19.5 sacks, also playing in a 3-4 defense.

Did Joseph not know Barrett was capable of that?
