DT Maurice Hurst
After a fantastic rookie season, defensive tackle Maurice Hurst took a step in the wrong direction last year. While he was able to turn it on some late, the Raiders need the former Michigan star to become a more consistent pass rusher.
With new defensive line coach Rod Marinelli, that will likely happen as he is widely known as one of the best “teachers” in the NFL. For years, Marinelli has gotten outstanding production out of interior rushers with far less talent than Hurst.
Hurst’s biggest challenge will be finding snaps as the team brought in Maliek Collins this offseason to compete with Hurst. But if Hurst can make his way into the starting lineup, he should be a perfect fit with the way Marinelli coaches.
It wouldn’t be surprising if Hurst had a career-year in 2020 as he could easily eclipse six sacks. In a critical Year 3, expect Hurst to become a big part of the Raiders’ defensive line this season.
