3 Defensive Keys to an Oklahoma Sooners win vs. the Iowa State Cyclones

What does the Oklahoma Sooners defense need to do to slow down the Iowa State Cyclones on Saturday? Here are 3 keys to the game.

Bottle Up Breece

Breece Hall is the focal point of this offense. The Cyclones want to run the ball and give teams a healthy dose of Hall. After getting run over by Abram Smith and Gerry Bohanon, the Sooners have to focus their efforts on stopping Hall and force Purdy into beating them. These teams played twice last season and how they performed against Hall determined the results.

Iowa State beat Oklahoma in Ames, with Hall rushing for 139 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries. Though he had two touchdowns in the Big 12 Championship rematch, the Sooners held Hall to 79 yards on 23 carries. That’s 60 fewer yards. The Sooners have enough tape and experience to know how to bottle up Hall. Purdy had to shoulder the load in the championship game and ended up throwing three interceptions.

The plan is clear. Bottle up Breece and take your chance against Purdy.
