3 bridge options for Chiefs in 2020 free agency

Here are three options that the Kansas City Chiefs should look into to bridge some roster gaps.

RB Frank Gore

If you added these three players circa 2014, it’d be an entirely different story.

Gore is preparing to play for a 16th NFL season. He started eight games for the Bills in 2019 and played in all 16 games. He carried the ball 166 times for nearly 600 yards and two touchdowns. Those are comparable numbers to what LeSean McCoy had in a timeshare with Damien Williams for the Chiefs in 2019.

At 36 years old, Gore sits at third all-time in NFL history with 15,347 career rushing yards. He passed the great Barry Sanders this year for No. 3 spot. He needs over 1,300 yards to pass Walter Peyton for No. 2 and over 3,000 yards to pass Emmitt Smith for the top spot. He clearly has his eyes set on some of those goals and what better place to attempt to reach them than with the defending Super Bowl champions.

The Chiefs could bring Gore to town on a one-year contract. He could be someone they bring in late in the offseason, just as they did with McCoy. Perhaps Kansas City will become the place where all-time great running backs come to get a Super Bowl ring.
