Opening weekend in college football has always been one of the most entertaining sports weekends of the year. The start of the 2022 campaign will be no different, with plenty of big time contests that we have been dreaming about since early January when the season officially ends.
Brad Crawford of 247Sports is already thinking about the first weekend in September, which includes intriguing contests like Oregon versus Georgia, Clemson at Georgia Tech, Cincinnati at Arkansas, Florida State versus LSU, and of course Notre Dame at Ohio State. The writer is already predicting outcomes, before spring football finishes, fall camps starts and potential changes on the depth chart.
For the highly anticipated contest that pits Marcus Freeman against his alma mater, Crawford doesn’t think this will end well for the new Notre Dame head coach’s regular season debut. The early prediction has the Irish falling to the Buckeyes 38-24 on the road.
Crawford sees “College Football Playoff implications” with this contest and there is no disagreement here. Both teams have final four aspirations and whoever gets the season opening win will have a big feather in their cap. Hopefully Crawford is incorrect but with almost four months until these two teams face-off in Ohio Stadium so much can change including his assessment of the outcome.
