The first event of the 2025 PGA Tour season takes place this week in Hawaii with The Sentry at the Plantation Course at Kapalua. The first round of this exclusive, no-cut, 60-player event begins on Thursday morning.
Below, we search for the best value prop bets for The Sentry from BetMGM Sportsbook’s PGA Tour odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions.
Xander Schauffele (+650) is the favorite this week with Scottie Scheffler out due to a hand injury, the only player with odds shorter than +1000. Justin Thomas (+1000), Collin Morikawa (+1100) and Ludvig Aberg (+1600) are among the other top players teeing it up in Maui, as is defending champion Chris Kirk (+8000).
The Plantation Course is a par 73 and is listed at 7,596 yards, but it doesn’t play as long as that yardage number indicates. There are vast elevation changes, which lead to long drives on these massively wide fairways. Inaccuracy off the tee isn’t as penalizing as it is at other courses because of how forgiving the fairways are.

The Sentry – Top-5 picks
Odds provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list of PGA Tour odds. Lines last updated Tuesday at 2:51 p.m. ET.
Collin Morikawa (+200)
Morikawa has been as steady as any player in this event since 2020, finishing second once, fifth twice and seventh twice. That’s right, he’s never finished worse than seventh in this tournament in the last 5 years. At +200, his odds are short but it’s hard to quit him at the Plantation Course.
Sungjae Im (+350)
Im has a great track record here, notching 2 top-5 finishes in his last 4 starts (2021 and 2024). With scores expected to be low, this course fits Im perfectly – and it’s a limited-field tournament with only 60 players teeing it up.
Justin Thomas (+200)
Another course horse, Thomas has won here twice since 2017 and has 3 other top-5 finishes in his last 7 starts at The Sentry. He’s played well this fall/winter, too, coming in second at the ZOZO Championship and third at the Hero World Challenge. It’s hard not to like him this week.

The Sentry – Top-10 picks
Matt Fitzpatrick (+350)
Fitzpatrick is mostly just a value play this week because of how long his odds are. He finished 14th in this event last year and seventh in 2023, his only 2 starts in The Sentry. Fitzpatrick has the ball-striking skills to win here. He just needs the putter to show up.
Brian Harman (+300)
Harman’s putting travels well and he should have success on the large greens at Kapalua. Plus, despite not being a bomber off the tee, the downhill holes will help level the playing field distance-wise and still give Harman some shorter irons into the greens.

The Sentry – Top-20 picks
Akshay Bhatia (-150)
Bhatia made his tournament debut here last year and finished 14th, a strong showing for a player in his first start in any event. Now that he’s seen the course and gained some experience, he should be even better suited to contend for a win. At the very least, a top-20 feels likely for the lefty.
Nico Echavarria (+175)
Echavarria came in 25th in his debut last year, gaining 0.37 strokes. Amazingly, he finished 25th despite terrible ball-striking numbers (-2.9 tee-to-green), getting a ton of help from his putter (4.36 SG). If he can putt like that again and improve his ball striking, he’ll be near the top of the leaderboard.
The Sentry – Matchups
Suggested play is golfer in bold.
Byeong-Hun An (-110) vs. Tony Finau (-110)
This is mostly about fading Finau. He’s had an up-and-down history in this event, finishing as high as seventh in 2023, but as low as 38th last year. Plus, he’s coming off a knee injury that caused him to miss a couple of starts this month.
The Sentry – Top Brit and Irish
Matt Fitzpatrick (+275)
Back to Fitzpatrick we go. There are only 4 players in this market, with Robert MacIntyre being the favorite at +160. Fitzpatrick’s odds should not be as long as they are, making him a good bet to be the top British/Irish player at the end of the week.
The Sentry – Top Australian
Cam Davis (+300)
Jason Day (+150) and Adam Scott (+120) are the only other Australian players in the field, so we’re getting +300 odds for Davis to beat just 2 other players. He came in 52nd last year, but finished 10th in his debut in 2022.
The Sentry – First-round leader
Cameron Young (+4000)
Who knows when Young will ever win a PGA Tour event, but we at least know he can have some incredibly low rounds. He shot 64 in the first round of the Hero World Challenge to grab a 2-shot lead before fading down the stretch, which was also his first PGA Tour round since August.
