As the summer recruiting periods begin, new names are already popping up on college basketball recruiting boards. For the UNC basketball program and [autotag]Hubert Davis[/autotag], there are a few interesting players beginning their recruitment with the Tar Heels.
One of those players is consensus top-30 big man in the 2024 class [autotag]James Brown[/autotag]. The 6-foot-9 center from St. Rita (IL) is ranked No. 27 in the 247Sports Composite rankings and is as high as No. 19 in the Rivals class of 2024 rankings.
Brown already holds offers from DePaul, Florida, Providence, Iowa, Kansas State, LSU, Wisconsin, Illinois and more. He is also invited to the USA Basketball U17 tryouts later this month.
While UNC hasn’t extended an offer, it has begun the relationship building process, according to On3.com.
“I know a lot historically about the program, with their success and their many great players but that’s another school I’m prepared to learn a lot about,” Brown said of UNC. “That’s a school that I like, even outside of their basketball success but educational success as well. That’s something that’s really important to me and my family, athletics, but education as well. I’m really excited to get to know Coach (Hubert) Davis and his staff and the whole Carolina program.”
College coaches can’t contact class of 2024 recruits directly until June 15 so much of the communication up to this point has come through Brown’s coaches.
Up to this point, Brown has visited Illinois, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Oklahoma.
His recruitment is barely underway, however, and with the likes of North Carolina getting involved, you can expect his recruitment to skyrocket soon.
Another blue blood that has reached out? Duke. Could this eventually be another battle between the two in-state rivals? Time will tell.
