Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher is in full-fledged recruiting mode outside of spring football practice this month, as a number of top prospects in the 2024 cycle are beginning to narrow down their options heading into the summer months, and on Tuesday, 5-star wide receiver Mike Matthews released his much anticipated Top 12 program list, which happened to include the Aggies.
Without any indication that this is his final list before his undetermined commitment date, Matthews includes the following schools: Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Auburn, Colorado, USC, Tennessee, LSU, Missouri, Arkansas, Ohio State, and of course, Texas A&M.
Out of Parkview High School in Lilburn, Georgia, Matthews is the 10th player and 4th wide receiver in the 2024 class, and the 2nd-ranked player in Georgia, and perhaps the most versatile athlete in the entire class. In scouting reports for 247Sports analyst Andrew Ivins, Mike Matthews is just on the periphery of becoming a two-way player at the FBS level:
A talented two-way athlete that some colleges view as a wide receiver long-term while others think he’s a future all-conference safety. Followed breakout sophomore season up with a monster junior campaign on offense as he averaged 21.5 yards per catch, totaling 1,030 yards and nine touchdowns through the air in the Peach State’s highest-classification. At one point reported a basketball offer from Mississippi State, and it’s pretty easy to see why as he’s extremely coordinated in almost everything he does and is always putting himself in position to make a play. Long-speed at point was a bit of a question mark, but tested exceptionally well spring before 12th grade year, clocking one of the fastest 40-yard dash times at a loaded camp outside of Atlanta. Tape also backs up the number as he’s constantly pulling away from defenders and creating separation on deeper routes. On the other side of the ball, has flashed the ability to quickly close gaps and get to the catch point while playing more of a center-field role. Must eventually pick a position, but should be viewed as one of the top overall talents in the 2024 cycle given how he moves out on the perimeter. NFL upside if he can keep progressing.

During his 2022 junior season as both wide receiver and safety, Matthews recorded 48 receptions for 1,031 yards and 10 TD on offense, while totaling 23 tackles and 2 INT on defense. Matthews has yet to visit Texas A&M, but something tells me a trip to College Station could be right around the corner sooner than later.
