After a 2-event week with the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play and Corales Puntacana Championship, the PGA Tour has one tournament this week ahead of the Masters. The 2023 Valero Texas Open tees off Thursday at TPC San Antonio with a field headlined by Tyrrell Hatton and Rickie Fowler.
Below, we look at the 2023 Valero Texas Open odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions.
The Texas Open is the final event before the season’s 1st major, giving those players needing one last tuneup before Augusta. Hatton and Fowler are among the favorites to win in San Antonio, along with Si-Woo Kim, Corey Conners and Hideki Matsuyama. Defending champion J.J. Spaun is also in the field.
TPC San Antonio (7,435 yards, par 72) is a course filled with bunkers, though unlike Austin Country Club last week, there aren’t many water hazards around the venue. Length off the tee certainly helps, but the way to win here is with strong iron play and accurate approaches into the greens.

Rickie Fowler (+2000)
Fowler has been as steady as they come this season, making the cut in 10 of his 11 starts with 7 top-25 finishes and 3 top-10s. Before missing the cut here last year, he had back-to-back T-17 finishes at the Valero Texas Open, so he’s played well at TPC San Antonio in the past. And now with his game as good as it’s been in years, He should be in contention this weekend.
Si Woo Kim (+2000)
Kim didn’t make it through group play at the WGC Match Play but he went 2-1 in a group with Matt Kuchar, Viktor Hovland and Chris Kirk. He has top-40 finishes in 7 of his last 8 starts overall, putting together a solid resume heading into this week. In his last 5 starts at the Texas Open, he’s gone T-13, T-23, T-4, T-45 and T-22.
J.J. Spaun (+3500)
Spaun won this event last year and comes in hot after going 3-0 in his group play matches last week before getting bounced by Xander Schauffele in the Round of 16. Although he missed the cut in this event the 2 years prior to winning in 2022, he did finish T-26 and T-49 in 2017 and 2018.

Valero Texas Open picks – Contenders
Matt Wallace (+4500)
Wallace is fresh off a win at the Corales Puntacana Championship, which came after a T-7 at the Valspar Championship the week prior. Earlier this season, he missed 5 straight cuts, but has been trending upward in recent weeks and now plays a course where he came in 3rd in 2021.
Beau Hossler (+8000)
Hossler resides in Texas so he won’t have to go very far for this event. He’s struggled as of late, missing 4 straight cuts, but before that, he had back-to-back top-15s and has 5 top-25s in 14 starts. He’s made the cut 4 straight times in this event, including a T-4 last year.
Valero Texas Open picks – Long shots
Charley Hoffman (+10000)
Hoffman has played here 16 times, more than all but 3 players in the field. He’s made the cut 15 times, with last year being the only time he didn’t play the weekend. In 2019 and 2021, he was the runner-up and he won here back in 2016. He’s a horse for this course and at +10000, he’s worth at least a look.
Patton Kizzire (+10000)
Kizzire didn’t play last week but he tied for 10th in his last start at the Valspar Championship. In 2021, he tied for 9th here and has the game to succeed at TPC San Antonio, ranking 32nd on tour in approach outside 200 yards. Kizzire is a worthwhile longshot this week.
