Evaluating the current roster, Sooners Wire profiles the current players, with wide receiver [autotag]Jalil Farooq[/autotag] up next.
After a freshman season where he was used sparingly, Jalil Farooq experienced a breakout season of sorts in 2022. As a runner and a receiver, he showed a penchant for big plays and hard running, giving the Sooners someone who could win in the screen game, taking a reverse, as an intermediate receiver, or on a deep ball.

Farooq has the tools necessary to be a lead wide receiver in the Oklahoma Sooners offense and is still developing. With another offseason to work with strength and conditioning coach [autotag]Jerry Schmidt[/autotag] and new wide receivers coach Emmett Jones, Farooq could follow Marvin Mims with a 1,000-yard receiving season.

Depth Chart Overview
With Marvin Mims off to the NFL, Jalil Farooq has a great opportunity to be the No. 1 wide receiver for the Oklahoma Sooners in 2023. His ability to play in every situation and to win at every level gives Jeff Lebby and Dillon Gabriel a dynamic playmaker they can get the ball to all over the field.
Farooq will be in line for 100 touches as a receiver and a runner in 2023. He’s too good with the ball in his hands not to force-feed him opportunities. And with that, 1,000 total yards isn’t out of the question.
