2023 NFL draft: EDGE Tyree Wilson medically cleared

Tyree Wilson hopes to be ready to work out in April after foot surgery last fall.

One of the most talented and interesting defensive prospects in the 2023 NFL draft is Texas Tech edge Tyree Wilson. Wilson took a step toward being fully prepared for the 2023 NFL draft when according to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport was medically cleared to work out after having surgery on his fractured foot.

Wilson suffered the injury on November 12 against the University of Kansas, cutting his promising season short. Wilson’s continued recovery means he will miss the Texas Tech pro day on March 29 but promises to have an individual pro day in April, closer to the draft.

Aside from Alabama edge Will Anderson Jr., there isn’t a defensive player in this entire class with more potential than Wilson. Assuming he is healthy, Wilson will be an easy choice as an early favorite for defensive rookie of the year. His ability to come off the edge and rush the quarterback at 6-foot-6 and 276 pounds is rare and really reminds us of Cleveland Browns edge Myles Garrett. Wilson is currently projected to be a Top-10 pick.
