The Indianapolis Colts selected QB Anthony Richardson with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft.

While all of the buzz from the outside was saying the Colts would take Kentucky’s Will Levis, general manager Chris Ballard took the prospect with the highest upside in the entire draft.

Richardson is inexperienced with just 13 starts in college, but he’s advanced in pocket presence, mobility and defender manipulation from the pocket. He also is arguably the most athletic quarterback to ever come out of the draft with an elite arm.

Here’s the scouting report from out friends over at Draft Wire:

Anthony Richardson will likely be the polarizing point of the draft, capable of going anywhere from the top five to all the way out of the first round should no team be willing to take the risk. He is not a two to three-year project at the position and his physical skillset places him within the ranks to play in the NFL. It is just a matter of whether a coaching staff can set him up in his fundamentals and develop them. He may even be suited to start day one in an offense taking full advantage of his physical capabilities surrounding him with play action, read option, and a consistent running attack.

It will be interesting to see if Richardson will play right away, but his fit in Shane Steichen’s scheme is perfect for his skill set. Now it’s up to Richardson and the coaching staff to help him reach his ceiling.
