Depth Chart Overview
A top 100 prospect out of high school and the son of former SEC offensive coordinator and current Chargers quarterbacks coach Doug Nussmeier, the younger Nussmeier signed with LSU out of high school and saw action in four games as a true freshman, sitting out what would have been a likely bowl game start to preserve his redshirt.
He competed with [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] last fall for the starting spot, which Daniels ultimately won. Nussmeier made appearances in seven games, impressing in second-half action of the SEC Championship against Georgia and the Citrus Bowl against Purdue.
Kelly has reiterated that Daniels is the starter, but the team seems to have confidence in Nussmeier, who will likely have at least some role on the 2023 team.
