2023 Genesis Invitiational odds, picks and PGA Tour predictions

Analyzing the golf odds to win the 2023 Genesis Invitational, with PGA Tour picks, predictions and best bets.

Scottie Scheffler reclaimed his spot as the No. 1 player in the world on Sunday by repeating as the WM Phoenix Open champion. He’ll carry that No. 1 ranking into the 2023 Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club, which also boasts a strong field despite not being 1 of the PGA Tour’s designated events.

Below, we look at the 2023 Genesis Invitational odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions.

Jon Rahm comes into this week as the betting favorite once again after finishing 3rd in Phoenix, but he’ll face some stiff competition from Scheffler and others. Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Xander Schauffele and Tony Finau are also teeing it up at Riviera, as is the tournament host, Tiger Woods.

Riviera CC features some of the narrowest fairways on tour, with tiny greens that are incredibly difficult to hit. It’s renowned as one of the best courses on the schedule each year, hosting the Genesis Invitational for the 60th time in 2023. Scrambling is an important stat this week, given the small greens, but at 7,322 yards as a par 71, length off the tee is also an important factor.

Genesis Invitational – Expert picks

Viktor Hovland (+3000)

The biggest worry with Hovland this week is his short game, which has never been his strength. That hasn’t stopped him from notching back-to-back top-5 finishes at the Genesis, which he’s done in the last 2 years. He’s been playing at a high level this season, too, making the cut in all 6 events with 2 top-10s – plus an unofficial win at the Hero World Challenge.

Justin Thomas (+1500)

Thomas is a master with his wedges and he looked dialed in at the WM Phoenix Open last week, shooting 6-under on Sunday to finish 4th. He’s played this event 8 times, coming in the top 10 on 3 occasions, including a 6th-place finish last year. He has a strong chance to win this week. It’s the type of event he excels at, with a strong field and tough scoring conditions.

Max Homa (+2000)

There’s no weakness to Homa’s game, which makes him an excellent pick in his home city of Los Angeles. He won the Genesis 2 years ago and has 2 other top-10s in the last 3 years here. In 6 starts so far this season, he’s had 5 top-25 finishes and has 3 top-10s with 2 wins. His odds are shortening by the week, but he’s still worth taking to win.

Genesis Invitational picks – Contenders

Rickie Fowler (+7000)

Fowler looks much improved this season compared to recent years. He already has 4 top-25s and 3 top-10s in his 7 starts so far this season, notching top-11s in his last 2 starts at the Farmers Insurance Open and WM Phoenix Open, 2 strong fields. His track record isn’t great here with no top-10s, but he tied for 20th in 2020 and is playing at a much higher level now.

Adam Scott (+5000)

Scott doesn’t play many events on the PGA Tour anymore but he doesn’t miss this event. He’s played here every year since 2016 and has only finished outside the top 11 twice in that span. As a mid-tier option this week, he offers good value at +5000, being a tournament he typically plays well in.

Genesis Invitational picks – Long shots

Nick Taylor (+10000)

Taylor has already won twice on the PGA Tour in his career, so it’s not like he hasn’t been there before. He tied for 20th in his last start at this event, which was in 2021 and has made the cut 5 out of 7 times. He’s quietly had a great season with 6 top-25s and 3 top-10s in 10 starts, including a runner-up finish at the WM Phoenix Open on Sunday.

Seamus Power (+10000)

Power has come in the top 25 in 6 of his 9 starts this season with only 1 missed cut and 1 win. He’s been one of the most consistent players on tour this season, which makes his +10000 odds somewhat surprising. It could have to do with the fact that he’s played this tournament only twice and hasn’t finished better than T-64, but this is a good buy-low opportunity.
