We are not even 24 hours past the crowning of the 2021-22 NBA Champion Golden State Warriors and sportsbooks are already moving onto the 2022-23 season.
Specifically, Tipico Sportsbook has 2022-23 championship futures and unsurprisingly, the Warriors (+480) and the Celtics (+600) have the two shortest odds of winning the next NBA title.
It makes sense. Why would you doubt this Warriors’ core of Steph, Klay, and Draymond after all these years—especially after watching Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole continue their rise? Meanwhile, Boston’s Tatum-Brown tandem is just scratching the surface at ages 24 and 25, respectively, and should only be getting better.
2022-23 NBA Championship Odds
Following the two recent NBA Finalists is a quartet of teams whose seasons ended far earlier than they, or anyone, probably would have expected.
First is the Brooklyn Nets, with +650 odds and then the LA Clippers at +700, who are then followed by 2021’s two finalists in the Milwaukee Bucks (+750) and Phoenix Suns (+900). All have a case for having such short odds given how injuries and player unavailabilities, throughout the regular and post season, interfered with each team’s chances this year. More luck in those departments this upcoming season would make each a legitimate title contender.
The surprising odds are the ones that rank below all of the aforementioned teams. Those include the Memphis Grizzlies (+1500) who very well could’ve been in the Western Conference Finals if not for a Ja Morant injury, and the New Orleans Pelicans (+4000) who could really take off next season if/when they add Zion Williamson back into the fold.
But, there’s a lot of time between now and the opening night of next season. Surely, the offseason’s free agency, draft and potential trades will shake up these odds.
