“I’m always keeping my mind into the game no matter what’s going on. Even though yesterday was my birthday we had a day off, I still had my mind on what I can possibly accomplish the day after which is today versus Portland. “Just going out and I’m in a damn good zone right now I just want to stay in it as long as possible. This is who I am and I want to continue to be that, continue to lead this team.”

Georgia beat Michigan 34-11: Orange Bowl 5 Things That Matter

Final Score: Georgia 34, Michigan 11
CFN Prediction: Georgia 30, Michigan 20
Line: Georgia -7.5, o/u: 45.5

5. Georgia returned to 2021 form

Oh were the post-SEC Championship narratives were rich. One rough loss to Alabama, and …

Georgia’s secondary was a weakness.

Georgia was exposed.

Georgia didn’t beat anyone who was all that amazing.

Georgia was playing the wrong quarterback.

Okay, so maybe that last one still sort of holds – more on that in a moment – but it was as if everyone had forgotten just how dominant this team was throughout the regular season.

The offense didn’t get a touchdown in the 10-3 opener against Clemson. No one else came even remotely close to touching this team up until Alabama pulled off the win, and even then the loss could partly be explained away that the Dawgs sort of played like it didn’t need the win – which it didn’t.

So was this a bad performance by Michigan? Yeah, sort of, but Georgia did that to Arkansas, and Florida, and Tennessee, and Kentucky, and everyone else on the slate except for that one team that’s coming up in a rematch a few days from now.

Oh, and …

Orange Bowl College Football Playoff 5 Thoughts
5; Georgia returned to 2021 form
4. Georgia had more talent. Duh.
3. Stetson Bennett was terrific
2. Nothing takes away from Michigan’s great season
1. Now Georgia gets its chance
5 Thoughts: Alabama 27-6 over Cincinnati

NEXT: Georgia had more talent. Duh.

Nuggets at Rockets: Saturday’s lineups, injury reports, broadcast and stream info

Denver enters Saturday’s game at Houston with a short-handed roster and coming off a postponement, but they still have MVP Nikola Jokic — which makes them a formidable foe for the Rockets.

The Houston Rockets will begin 2022 on New Year’s Day in a very similar manner to how they ended 2021: Welcoming a health-ravaged opponent to Toyota Center. This time, it’s the Denver Nuggets, who are coming off a postponement due a lack of available players.

Fortunately, barring a late increase in positive COVID-19 test results, the Nuggets have signed enough players to temporary hardship contracts that Saturday’s game should go forward.

Even though the Rockets have superior depth, given current health and injury lists, Denver is likely to be favored for one big reason: Reigning NBA MVP Nikola Jokic is healthy and ready to go.

It also remains to be seen how Stephen Silas will navigate back-to-back considerations, since the Rockets also played on New Year’s Eve in a home loss to Miami. Earlier in the week, Houston rested guards Kevin Porter Jr. and Jalen Green for half of a back-to-back, since each is coming off a leg injury that sidelined them for multiple weeks.

Then again, perhaps this back-to-back is different, since both games are in Houston (meaning no in-between travel) and both young guards have improved their conditioning since making their initial returns. Silas indicated Friday he was hopeful of having Green and Porter available for both ends of this back-to-back, but that a final determination would not be made until evaluating them on Saturday.

Lakers player grades: LeBron James scores 43 in blowout win vs. Trail Blazers

Here is how the Los Angeles Lakers graded individually from a dominant victory against the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Los Angeles Lakers dominated through all four quarters to rout the Portland Trail Blazers, 139-106.

Portland entered the game ranked No. 29 in defensive rating, and Los Angeles took advantage of that from the start. The Lakers dropped 43 points in the first quarter and led by 15.

LeBron James, in particular, had the hot hand from the get-go. He made his first four field goals and had put up 27 points at the end of the first half. That dominance persisted in the second half. James finished the game with 43 points to easily lead all scorers.

Los Angeles led by 35 in the fourth quarter to seal the deal.

Here is how the Lakers, now 18-19, graded individually from the victory:
