As Dan Mullen and his Florida Gators football staff continue to work on future classes, this summer will be a big one for the program in terms of trying to impress recruits and get them to commit.

With the NCAA likely ending the recruiting dead period in June, Florida is set to host two big recruiting weekends that month. Among the scheduled visitors is three-star in-state receiver Jayden Gibson, a player who is seeing his stock rise and is sought by over 30 programs.

Gibson is a Winter Garden native and has 34 offers in his recruitment so far, setting official visits this summer before making his decision. But over the weekend, Gibson was recognized at an event held by a former Gators standout.

(function (d, s, n) {
var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];
js = d.createElement(s);
js.className = n;
js.src = “//player.ex.co/player/e5869bc6-faf6-4b7a-8c06-b5610c96a8fe”;
fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);
}(document, ‘script’, ‘exco-player’));

C.J. Gardner-Johnson hosted a Pylon 7-on-7 event in Orlando, giving recruits the chance to shine and improve their stock a bit. When it was all said and done, Gibson was named the “Alpha Dog” of the event by 247Sports’ Andrew Ivins:

 Gibson was the top wide receiver on hand Saturday. The lanky 6-foot-6 pass catcher out of Winter Garden (Fla.) West Orange caught three touchdowns passes for Certified Dawg. All three can be seen in the video linked above. A number of college scouts and coaches have relayed behind the scenes that they believe the Sunshine State’s 2022 wide receiver class is a bit down compared to years prior, but Gibson looked like a wide receiver on Saturday that belongs inside the Top247. While he still needs to clean some things up from a technical standpoint, he’s a fluid mover with a long stride that is coordinated enough to make some acrobatic grabs, even in traffic.

The No. 541 overall, No. 68 receiver and No. 72 player in the state of Florida per 247Sports will likely make his choice after taking his visits this summer. It’s really tough to identify the front-runner, but this could come down to an in-state battle between Miami and the Gators.

Let’s hope Florida can do enough to land this talented receiver.
