2022 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play odds, picks and PGA Tour predictions

Analyzing the golf odds to win the 2022 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, with PGA Tour picks, predictions and best bets.

After wrapping up the Florida swing with the Valspar Championship, next  on the PGA Tour schedule is the first World Golf Championships event of the year. The WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play will be played at Austin Country Club in Texas, with the star-studded tournament beginning  Wednesday and finishing on Sunday. Below, we look at the 2022 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions to win.

It’s a limited field at the WGC match play event, with only 64 players teeing it up in Austin in 16 groups of four players each. Those four players play three days of round-robin competition, with the winner of each pool moving onto the round of 16.

Headlining the championship are the top five players in the world rankings — Jon Rahm, Collin Morikawa, Viktor Hovland, Patrick Cantlay and Scottie Scheffler — as well as Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Thomas. Last year’s champion Billy Horschel, who beat Scheffler in the final — is also in the field that boasts 64 of the world top 69 players.

Austin Country Club isn’t a very long course and is expected to play around 7,100 yards. It’s a par 71 and was designed by the great Pete Dye, so there are a couple of shorter par 4s, and par 5s that can be reached in two. This is the sixth year Austin Country Club has hosted the match play event, so returning players should be familiar with the layout and intricacies.

Collin Morikawa (+2000)

Morikawa failed to get out of the group stage in his first appearance at this championship last year, but that doesn’t mean he’s a poor match play player. At the Ryder Cup last year, he went 3-0-1 in his four matches, though he didn’t win an individual match. His group of Jason Kokrak, Sergio Garcia, Robert Macintyre isn’t terribly threatening either, outside of Garcia, who  excels in match play.

With his ball-striking and the shorter course, Morikawa will keep the pressure on his opponents by attacking pins with his irons and positioning himself well around the course.

2022 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play picks – Contender

Alex Noren (+5000)

Noren has to get through Louis Oosthuizen, Paul Casey and Corey Conners in the group stage, which is a challenge. But Noren has won the second-largest percentage of his holes played at this event since 2018 and he’s had success at Austin Country Club, finishing in the top five twice. Noren is also playing extremely well right now, finishing in the top 26 in each of his last three starts, including two top-12s. This season, he has four top-25s.

2022 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play picks – Long shot

Keegan Bradley (+8000)

Bradley surprisingly missed the cut at the Valspar Championship, but only by one shot. Prior to that start, he went T11 and T5 in his previous two events, rounding into form nicely this spring. Bradley is in a group that features Jordan Spieth, Adam Scott, Justin Rose, who can all be streaky players. At +8000, I like Bradley’s value.
