With only one week until the Masters, the final tuneup for players before Augusta is this week’s Valero Texas Open. The first round begins Thursday at TPC San Antonio. Below, we look at the 2022 Valero Texas Open odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions to win.
Rory McIlroy headlines the Texas field, coming in at No. 8 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. Texas native Jordan Spieth, who won the 2021 event, is in the field along with Bryson DeChambeau and defending Masters champ Hideki Matsuyama. Corey Conners, Abraham Ancer and Tony Finau are also among the favorites to win in San Antonio.
TPC San Antonio is hosting the event for the 13th time. It’s a longer course than Austin Country Club, site of last week’s WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Championship, and plays to 7,438 yards, par 72. The winning score is typically between 15- to 20-under par (Spieth won last year at -18). The Oaks Course being played this week was designed by Greg Norman and features long par 3s and a pair of shorter par 4s.

Chris Kirk (+3000)
Kirk has the sixth-best odds in the field so he’s not the top favorite, but at +3000, he’s a great value for a guy who not only enters in good form, but also has a great track record at this event. He’s finished top 15 at the Valero Texas Open four times, including a tie for 6th last year. He missed the cut in 2019 and 2017, but he should be seriously considered at TPC San Antonio.
Before missing the cut at The Players Championship, Kirk went T14, T7 and T5 in his previous three starts.
2022 Valero Texas Open picks – Contender
Kevin Streelman (+5000)
[tipico]
Like Kirk, Streelman has been playing well in recent weeks. He tied for 7th at the Valspar Championship after finishing T22 the week prior at The Players. He also has an impressive record at the Valero Texas Open. He didn’t play the event last year, but finished solo 6th in 2019 and tied for 8th in 2018.
I see Streelman having a good week in San Antonio, contending once again.
2022 Valero Texas Open picks – Long shot
Takumi Kanaya (+10000)
Kanaya surprised a lot of people last week at the WGC Match Play event in Austin, making it to the Round of 16 before losing to Corey Conners. He lost to Xander Schauffele, but he took down Tony Finau and Lucas Herbert to win his group in a playoff.
It was only Kanaya’s fourth tour event this season and he’s played well in two of them, including a T7 at the ZOZO Championship.
