2022 Sentry Tournament of Champions odds, picks and PGA Tour predictions

Analyzing the golf odds to win the 2022 Sentry Tournament of Champions, with PGA Tour picks, predictions and best bets.

The 2022 portion of the PGA Tour’s wraparound schedule begins at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii, Thursday after taking a few weeks off for the holidays. The champions from last season will tee it up at the Plantation Course at Kapalua Resort, a spectacular venue to open 2022 on tour. Below, we look at the 2022 Sentry Tournament of Champions odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions to win.

The field is made up of 38 PGA Tour winners from last season, including Jon Rahm, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth. Rory McIlroy did not commit to the event this year, but Xander Schauffele was invited after winning a gold medal at the summer Olympics, so the field stands at 39 total players. There is no cut this week given the small field.

The Plantation Course plays to a par 73 and spans 7,596 yards, but the fairways are wide and easy to hit. There’s a ton of elevation change being on the west coast of Maui, which is one of the few challenges of this course. The pros typically tear this track up with low numbers, as evidenced by Harris English going 25-under to win it last year.

Bryson DeChambeau (+1200)

This course doesn’t require much accuracy off the tee with the wide fairways, and that gives DeChambeau an edge with his length. He’s the type of player who can really attack the pins with shorter irons and the greens being so soft.

It’s possible that some players will be rusty after taking a break from the game with it being the first event after the holidays. That’s unlikely to be the case for DeChambeau, who’s constantly working and fiddling with his game to improve. I like him at +1200 this week.

2022 Sentry Tournament of Champions picks – Contender

Patrick Reed (+3000)

Reed won here in 2015, finished T-2 here in 2020 after a playoff with Schauffele and Thomas and ended up T-21 last year. He has a good track record at this course and was playing well at the end of 2021 with a T-3 finish at the Hero World Challenge heading into the break.

His short game will be valuable on the Plantation Course, as will his ball-striking into these greens. He’s a good value at +3000 as a mid-tier contender.

2022 Sentry Tournament of Champions picks – Long shot

Joel Dahmen (+10000)

Dahmen is tied for the third-longest odds in the field, so he’s not someone you’re going to lay a very big wager on. However, he’s 47th in strokes gained: off the tee and 34th in SG: approach the green so far this season. He’s also gaining the 41st most strokes on the greens, so he’s top-50 in all three categories.

That sets him up well at Kapalua. He finished 2021 strong with back-to-back top-30 finishes at the Houston Open and RSM Classic, including a T-5 in Houston.
