The Dallas Cowboys have been causing indigestion for their fans on Thanksgiving for 56 years. With the NFL set to attempt a hostile takeover on the NBA for the entirety of the Christmas weekend in 2022, there may be a new holiday for the team to dampen spirits.
While the NFL schedule won’t be officially released until Thursday night, the trail of cookie crumbs waits for no programming. It’s being reported the Cowboys will play host to the Philadelphia Eagles on December 24.

The last time the Cowboys played on Christmas Eve was back in 2017 against the Seattle Seahawks. That iteration of Dallas had fallen from a 5-3 start to 5-6 before rattling off three games in a row, including the infamous index card game against the Oakland Raiders. Needing to win out to make the playoffs and with running back Ezekiel Elliott returning from his suspension, Cowboys nation was riding high. That was until the game got going and the Dallas offense didn’t. Kicker Dan Bailey tallied all 12 of the teams points and the team fell short 21-12.
There’s at least one happy camper: Santa Claus, who due to the game not taking place in Philadelphia won’t have to endure an onslaught of snowballs from the City of Brotherly Love’s faithful like in 1968.
The NFL has been big fans of scheduling divisional opponents late in the season, and with the Eagles vying for the NFC East crown, the odds this game is meaningless for either team is slim.
