The Oklahoma Sooners chase for a top defensive back in the 2022 recruiting class continues. Recently Bryce Anderson released his top five schools but the Sooners missed the cut for the Beaumont, Texas, product. However, Jacoby Mathews put Oklahoma in his top six. According to Rivals, Mathews is the No. 1 safety in the country and No. 1 player from the state of Louisiana.
Mathews is a two-sport star as he also plays basketball. He won’t make a decision until the All-American game where he will likely sign with the school of his choice. Last year he tested his 40-yard dash at 4.75 seconds and 4.59 in the shuttle. In football, he played both defensive back and quarterback on offense.
Mathews is a name to watch over the next several months once football kicks off again. Another recruiting battle that Oklahoma needs to win over the Longhorns.
