According to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport, the Washington Commanders are set to release hybrid linebacker/safety Landon Collins. Collins still has three years left on his current contract but the two sides can’t agree on a restructure so he’s heading to free agency.
Collins has primarily operated as a big strong safety during his career and this should matter to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Current Steelers starting strong safety Terrell Edmunds is set to hit free agency and Collins would represent a huge upgrade.
Even bigger than that, Collins could be considered an upgrade at linebacker as well if the team wanted to pair him up with a coverage linebacker and allow Collins to roam the box.
Sources: The Washington #Commanders are expected to release star defender Landon Collins after the two sides did not agree on a restructured contract. Collins will now hit free agency to cash in again.
