2022 NFL free agency: Jaguars expected to land former Cardinals WR Christian Kirk

The Jags clearly needed receiver help coming into today’s tampering period and have made a big signing to help fix the issue in Christian Kirk.

The Jacksonville Jaguars went for value signings last year, but this year they are clearly being aggressive.

Early in the tampering period, they signed one of the best available offensive linemen on the market in guard Brandon Scherff, but they didn’t want to stop there in terms of splash moves. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, they also have agreed to terms with one of the top receivers on the market in former Arizona Cardinal Christian Kirk, though the terms aren’t clear yet.

It was no secret that the Jags needed receiver help, and they turned to a player who is coming from one of the most dangerous offenses in football. Kirk will be coming off a career year where he had 77 catches for 982 yards, though his 2022 touchdown total of five just missed the mark of tying his career-high of six.

Kirk’s snaps mostly came from the slot last season, according to Pro Football Focus, where he registered 702 reps (to 187 reps on the perimeter). However, in his previous seasons, his snaps on the perimeter outweighed his snaps in the slot, so the Jags may view him as a versatile piece for Trevor Lawrence.

Kirk will now join a Jags receivers group that consists of Marvin Jones Jr., Laviska Shenault Jr., and Jamal Agnew at the top of the depth chart. His deal is rumored to be a massive one, too, so it appears the Jags may look to the draft if they want to add more help to the receivers corps.
