2022 NFL draft: Jaguars currently projected to pick from No. 5 spot

Here’s what Jacksonville’s draft positioning would look like if the season ended today.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were idle in Week 7 after finally ending their 20-game losing streak with a win over the Miami Dolphins in London the week prior. With that 23-20 victory, which was secured by a game-winning kick from Matthew Wright as time expired, the Jags removed themselves from the bottom of the league’s standings.

Detroit is still yet to pick up its first win, and the victory moved Jacksonville above several other one-win teams. Now, per Tankathon, the Jaguars would pick fifth overall if the season ended today.

Most mock drafts that have been released to this point showed the team picking first overall, which would likely mean the selection of Oregon edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux. However, this class has several elite prospects, and picking fifth would certainly allow the Jags to land one of them.

At some point, this franchise needs to move beyond top-five draft picks, but considering this roster still has a lot of holes, an early-round pick in 2022 could prove to be very beneficial in the long term.
