Penn State’s roster in 2021-22 features a handful of new faces via the transfer portal. But one face who is returning to the program already arrived in Happy Valley through the transfer portal, and he’s off to a good start to the season as a scoring fixture for the Nittany Lions. Sam Sessoms, a guard from West Philadelphia is bringing some of that Philly attitude to the court for Penn State in 2021-22.

Sessoms has proven to be one of Penn State’s top players on the court in the time he has been with the program. And he’s off to a solid start to the 2021-22 campaign under first-year head coach Micah Shrewsberry as well. Sessoms was a new addition to the program in 2020 after transferring to the Nittany Lions from Binghampton. In his two years with Binghampton, Sessoms held seven single-game records and five freshman records and left the program as the school’s second-highest scoring list with 1,151 points in two seasons.

Sessoms has started off the 2021-22 season as one of Penn State’s leading scorers through the first few games of the year and already looks poised to be a big factor in the offense under Shrewsberry.

Sessoms has been able to lead on the court, and that is a role he has quickly taken on in the new season. Given his journey from high school to Binghampton and to Penn State, the experience Sessoms has gained can offer a lot for a program with a blend of returning players and new transfers, leading to an incoming recruiting class looking to build a solid foundation for future success.
