[lawrence-newsletter][lawrence-related id=19738,19723]Yesterday on the Locked On Badgers podcast, we had the pleasure of interviewing 2021 Wisconsin QB commit Deacon Pe’a Hill about all things class of 2021. The future Badger helped to shed some light on the future of Wisconsin football recruiting as the Badgers look to round out the 2021 group.
The power of the group chat is a theme that came through in the interview. What group chat I am referring to specifically? The class of 2021 group chat that Wisconsin commits, and even some “future commits” according to Pe’a Hill and fellow 2021 commit Jake Chaney, have used as a recruiting weapon. The future Badger QB broke down not only what he enjoys about helping in the recruiting process, but how the group chat helps show guys that Wisconsin is the way to go.
“It’s like you’re trying to get somebody to join your family,” Pe’a Hill told BadgersWire when asked about why he enjoys being a part of the recruiting process. “We have our Wisconsin 2021 group chat and if we find a recruit that we need to get or a coach tells us ‘we are going after this guy,’ then we will send his info into the group chat and we will all go after him as much as possible.”
So, what 2021 players or positions are Wisconsin football’s coaches focused on at the moment? “Offensively, we have to get some more receivers,” said Pe’a Hill. “We have Jackson [Acker], we have Loyal [Crawford], we have our lineman. We have to find receivers.”
Naturally, in the hunt for wide receivers, the group chat has been deployed as a resource. 2021 three-star WR Skyler Bell is a major Wisconsin target right now, despite 247Sports predictions that he could be Iowa bound. The group chat has been trying to persuade him to become a Badger. “We sent his [Skyler Bell’s] social media in and we all texted him. We got on a zoom call with him the other day,” Pe’a Hill told BadgersWire yesterday. Bell certainly confirmed his interest in Wisconsin via Twitter and sparked some serious excitement among Badger fans. Cue the eyeball emojis.

As the Badgers look to fill out the class at WR, the tight knit group that is the already committed class of 2021 will prove to be an invaluable resource.
