2020 NFL mock draft: Panthers take Clemson DB with Kyle Allen pick

Three weeks ago, the Panthers traded Kyle Allen to the Redskins for a fifth-round pick in the upcoming 2020 NFL draft. It was one of the best moves general manager Marty Hurney has made this offseason. Getting a fifth for a backup quarterback who was no longer in the team’s plans is about as lopsided as trades not involving Bill O’Brien get these days.

So, who will they add to their roster with that pick? According to a new 2020 mock by Luke Easterling at Draft Wire, the team will take Clemson defensive back K’Von Wallace at No. 148 overall.

Wallace won’t radically alter the defense like selecting Isaiah Simmons at No. 7 would. He is an excellent fit based on the team’s needs, though. While he’s listed as a strong safety, Wallace has also put in extensive time at slot cornerback. With Javien Elliott gone, that’s one more hole the Panthers defense needs to fill. Some analysts believe he’s even the best nickel prospect in this class.

In addition to filling a big hole, Wallace offers superb athleticism. At the combine, he posted a 38 inch vertical, a 133 inch broad jump, a 6.76 three-cone drill and a 4.15 shuttle.

Let’s see what he can do on film.

Wallace vs. South Carolina

Wallace vs. Charlotte

Wallace vs. Ohio State

Wallace vs. Virginia

While it would be awesome to land him as late as the fifth round, some mocks have him coming off the board as early as the third.
