The Cincinnati Bengals don’t figure to pull any shockers with the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL draft, something continually stressed by mock drafts.
LSU’s Joe Burrow is the pick after his Heisman Trophy-winning campaign and national title.
The latest mock to emphasize this comes from USA Today’s Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz:
“At the NFL level, though, Burrow’s senior campaign will go down as what launched him from afterthought to clear front-runner for the No. 1 pick. Though Cincinnati’s coaches won’t get an up-close look at him as they work the Senior Bowl next week, there shouldn’t be much mystery left about this selection.”
Indeed, no mystery here. Bengals coaches have already extensively covered how much they like Burrow. Even a Pittsburgh Steelers player is ready to sack the future Bengals quarterback.
While it doesn’t sound like Burrow will attend the Senior Bowl, where the Bengals coach the South team and will oversee others like Justin Herbert, that won’t have much of an impact on the process here.
In this area at least, predictable is good — the Bengals seem likely to bring the Ohio kid home after a historic season and task him with spurring a rebound for the franchise.
