The Indianapolis Colts sat back and watched as the board fell to their liking on Day 1 of the 2020 NFL draft, but now it’s time for them to make some moves on Day 2.
The draft so far
There was a slight chance the Colts may have moved up into Round 1, but it appears they didn’t even entertain the thought as it was reported they didn’t try to move up. With three current picks on Friday, the Colts are likely to make some moves at positions of need.
Four quarterbacks went in the first round (Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert and Jordan Love) while six wide receivers were selected on Day 1. Those were two major positions of need for Indy entering the draft.
While the quarterback class has been thinned out a bit, which was to be expected, the Colts can still find some serious value at almost every other position of need.
Coming up for Day 2
As stated above, the Colts have three selections slated for Day 2. However, it should be expected that Chris Ballard makes some type of move back from one of the two second-round picks in order to add another selection (or two) for later in the draft.
Until that happens, though, here is the current slate of picks for Indy on Friday:
- Round 2 | No. 34 overall (from WAS)
- Round 2 | No. 44 overall
- Round 3 | No. 75 overall
Because Ballard has blatantly said they are actively looking to move back and add more draft capital, both of No. 34 and No. 44 are potential picks to be traded.
Potential positions addressed
Without making a selection on Day 1, the Colts still have all of their needs to meet. The value on Day 2 will be at wide receiver and safety. The Colts can find immediate impact players at both spots without having to give up anything. In fact, they can trade back and still find strong value at both positions.
There is still a chance the Colts use a Day 2 pick on a quarterback—most likely one of Jacob Eason, Jalen Hurts or Jake Fromm. They could also take advantage of the offensive tackles that are available like Josh Jones, Ezra Cleveland, Lucas Niang or Matt Peart.
