The 2020 NFL Draft is entering Day 3, with no shortage of talented prospects on the board. Here’s a look at 11 players New England could target.
Jacob Eason, QB, Washington: His physical tools were enough to earn a second-round grade from NFL.com. But apparently, teams are worried about his ability to handle the pass rush and read defenses.
Jake Fromm, QB, Georgia: His football IQ is extremely impressive. His arm talent is not.
John Hightower, WR, Boise State: If the Patriots are looking for a burner, Hightower, a 6-foot and 190 pound wideout, might be their guy. He ran a 4.43-second 40-yard dash and 7.07-second 3-cone drill at the NFL combine.
Antonio Gandy-Golden, WR, Liberty: His measurements underwhelmed at the 2020 NFL Combine with a 4.6-second 40-yard dash and a 7.33-second 3-cone drill. He’d have to project as more of a possession receiver at 6-foot-4, 225 pounds.
Hunter Bryant, TE, Florida Atlantic: He was the offensive centerpiece at FAU in 2020, and managed over 1,000 receiving yards, a team-high. They already have two tight ends. but it’s the draft. Picks bust. It wouldn’t hurt to add three players at the position.
Albert Okwuegbunam, TE, Missouri: His best season came in 2018 when he had 43 catches and 466 yards and six touchdowns. He had a career-high 11 touchdowns in his first season.
Saahdiq Charles, OT, LSU: You can’t find many impressive starting SEC tackles like Charles on Day 3. But perhaps that’s because he missed six games for disciplinary reasons.
Curtis Weaver, Edge, Boise State: The Patriots might be interested in this three-year starter, who amassed 128 tackles, 34 sacks and 47.5 tackles for loss. The only problem? He struggles to set the edge in the run game.
Bradlee Anae, Edge, Utah: His production blew up in his senior season wiuth 13 sacks, 41 tackles and 14 tackles for loss. He’s a try-hard, who would be a good fit in New England.
Akeem Davis-Gaither, LB, Appalachian State: This 6-foot-2 and 224 pound linebacker would be a look to the future at the inside linebacker position. He logged 101 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and five tackles in 2019 and 98 tackles in 2018.
Netane Muti, IOL, Fresno State: He’s a mauler, who could help the Patriots plan for life without Joe Thuney, whether in 2020 or in 2021.
