Time to see who is going to move on.
The next round in our NCAA Tournament simulation is the South Region which features a double-digit seed matchup for the Sweet 16 after East Tennessee State and Bradley pulled off some pretty big upsets.
For those who are new and stumbled across this particular post, we are simulating the NCAA Tournament using What If Sports for a one-and-done format just like the real thing.
South
Final score: No. 1 Baylor 83, No. 9 USC 72
Davion Mitchell led the way for the Bears by scoring 22 points and converting 4 of 6 from three-point range. The Trojans three-point game was their downfall as they made just 4 of 19 from beyond the arc.
Final score: 95 No. 5 Ohio State, No. 4 Kentucky 61
Ohio State handed Kentucky one of its worst tournament losses ever by suffering a 34-point defeat. The Buckeyes offense and defense was on fire by shooting 59 percent from the field while its defense limited the Wildcats shot just 37 percent from the field. Leading the way for Ohio State was Duane Washington who scored 21 points and was one of five who scored in double-digits.
Final score: No. 14 Bradley 73, No. 11 East Tennessee State 72
We may have found Cinderella for this tournament with Bradley heading to the Sweet 16 as a No. 14 seed, but it didn’t seem like that was the case. Bradley nearly blew a 14-point lead at the half and the game ended up being a back and forth over the second part of the second half.
Danya Kingsby hit the game winner for Bradley to get the one-point game in what is sure to be a classic game for the 2020 tourney.
Final score: No. 7 Arizona 92, No. 2 Florida State 83
Another big upset in the South region happened with Arizona taking out national title sleeper team in Florida State. The Wildcats got off to a fast start and raced out to a 12-point lead and held off that Seminoles rally. Arizona was never in danger to lose this game as they move onto the Sweet 16.
