2020 NBA re-draft: Sixers take Malachi Flynn as Tyrese Maxey goes early

In a 2020 re-draft, the Philadelphia 76ers select Malachi Flynn with Tyrese Maxey going early.

The Philadelphia 76ers are preparing for the NBA playoffs that begin on Sunday, but, during the downtime, it is fun to look back at the 2020 NBA draft.

Philadelphia had one first-round pick, thanks to the help of Mike Muscala and the Oklahoma City Thunder, and they made the most of it.

The Sixers selected Tyrese Maxey out of Kentucky the 21st pick, and he had a productive season for Philadelphia. He learned a lot and showed a great deal of development in his offensive game.

After a productive rookie season, Maxey was selected 12th by the Sacramento Kings in a re-draft of 2020 by Bleacher Report. With Maxey going so early, the Sixers selected Malachi Flynn at 21:

Flynn had a handful of huge scoring efforts when given full-time minutes. He wasn’t efficient for the season, but ball skills, creativity and shot-making should make Flynn a high-end backup at the least.

Flynn was selected 29th overall by the Toronto Raptors in the 2020 draft and he averaged 7.5 points while shooting 32.1% from deep. He earned Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for April for Toronto.

Either way, the Sixers have to feel confident that they made the right decision when Maxey fell into their laps.
