The 2020 McDonald’s All American Games set to take place on April 1 in Houston have been canceled due to the growing concern of the coronavirus, the event announced on Thursday.
Forty-eight high school seniors – comprising the top 24 girls and
24 boys in the country – were selected by a committee of basketball experts from more than 900 nominated players to participate in the annual All-Star showcase.
The event becomes the latest to cancel or postpone games amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The NBA announced on Wednesday that the regular season has been suspended until further notice after Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for the coronavirus. Commissioner Adam Silver said on Thursday that hiatus will last at least 30 days.
The NCAA decided to cancel the men’s and women’s 2020 basketball tournaments on Thursday and also canceled all remaining winter and spring championships. Additionally, all major sports in the United States have been postponed or delayed indefinitely.

Health officials have warned against events with greater than 250 people in some areas and have recommended that such activities be canceled or postponed to help slow the spread of the virus.
