The Philadelphia Eagles currently have one safety set to become an unrestricted free agent and another who would like a new contract. With the NFL being a league where anything can happen, the Eagles could be in a position to make an upgrade by subtraction.
If the Eagles decide to move on from Jenkins, McLeod or both, Pro Football Focus believes Vikings free-agent safety, Anthony Harris would be the perfect replacement.
Malcolm Jenkins helped improve the Eagles’ secondary this year, playing exceptionally well in his box safety/slot role. Everywhere else wasn’t terrible, but there is certainly room for improvement, and adding Anthony Harris would elevate the most important unit on the defensive side of the ball. Harris has been one of the NFL’s best free safeties these past couple of years, recording the highest two-year PFF overall grade at that alignment. He also had seven interceptions as a free safety in that timespan while allowing six catches.
After playing a reserve role early in his career, Harris jumped out onto the scene officially in 2019, tying for the lead in the NFL with six interceptions, on top of the career-high 60 combined tackles and 11 pass deflections.
Harris would be an upgrade from both Jenkins and McLeod in the playmaking department, while thriving in coverage as well, rarely allowing a completion.
