It’s always fun during training camp when the Dallas Cowboys have two players sharing the same jersey number. Do to offseason rules allowing clubs to roster as many as 90 players at a time, and because storied franchises such as the Cowboys have several numbers which are off-limits, occasionally there will be members of the offense and defense who share a number.

That is reserved for down-line players, not the stars, and normally happens after the draft when there are numerous undrafted free agents and tryout guys rounding out the ends of the roster. For now, jersey numbers assigned are unique, and on Friday the Cowboys acknowledged the temporary jersey assignments of several of their 2020 free agent signings.

Kick Greg “The Leg” Zuerlein will sport No. 2, sandwiched between January futures contract signing and camp leg Tristan Vizcaino (No. 1) and incumbent Kai Forbath (No. 3).

Zuerlein wore No. 4 with the Los Angeles Rams.

Safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix will rock jersey No. 27, which was vacated by CB Jourdan Lewis who returned to No. 26, his number at Michigan.

Corner Marucie Canady takes up No. 28.

Clinton-Dix wore No. 20 with Washington and No. 21 with the Chicago Bears last season and originally in Green Bay when he played for new head coach Mike McCarthy.

Blake Bell, signed to be the blocking tight end compliment to Blake Jarwin will take over No. 80, famously worn to no games that mattered by Rico Gathers. Hopefully he’ll do it more justice. Bell wore No. 81 for the Chiefs and Vikings previously.

New defensive tackle Gerald McCoy will continue to wear No. 93 as he did with the Tampa Bay Bucs and last season with the Carolina Panthers. Likewise, DT Dontari Poe wore No. 95 with the Panthers and gets it back as he is now with the Cowboys.

93 was worn by Daniel Ross, a restricted free agent Dallas didn’t tender and signed with the Las Vegas Raiders to reunite with Rod Marinelli. 95 was most famously recently worn by David Irving.

2 K Greg Zuelein
27 S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
28 CB Maurice Canady
80 TE Blake Bell
93 DT Gerald McCoy
95 DT Dontari Poe
