After a year away from the game of football, Rob Gronkowski is back, this time as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Reuniting with old friend Tom Brady, he looks to begin a new chapter in his career. One has to wonder if the Gronk of old will to show up in Tampa Bay. The possibility that Tom Brady could seek his old friend often could make Gronkowski a viable fantasy target.
If Rob Gronkowski played last year and had a successful year, I would be more high on him for fantasy football. Instead, he has not played in a year, and he joins a team already filled with weapons on the outside. Given those two factors, I would consider him a late-round pick.
ADP on Fantasy Pros: #122
Where we think you should take him: Tenth round
ESPN’s projected stats: 51 receptions, 690 yards, five touchdowns
Our projected stats: 60 receptions, 600 yards, six touchdowns
Brady does have familiarity with him, so it would be smart to draft him in the later rounds as a depth piece with a ton of upside. He could be a major target in the red zone especially with defenders paying more attention to Tampa Bay’s outside receivers.
