The Tennessee Titans whiffed on two of their biggest offseason acquisitions from 2020 in edge rushers Vic Beasley and Jadeveon Clowney, leading to Tennessee’s pass rush being putrid last year.
So it comes as no surprise that each player’s contract made a list of the worst handed out last offseason, according to Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox. Normally this is where I come back with some kind of argument, but I got nothin’ here.
Beasley, who showed up late to training camp, received a one-year deal worth $9.5 million and played in just five games before being released.
The 28-year-old totaled zero sacks, one forced fumble and three combined tackles. So, the Titans effectively paid him about $3 million per tackle — talk about value!
Clowney cost about $13 million in 2020. The former No. 1 overall pick also failed to record a single sack and his season ended early after just eight games following knee surgery.
While Beasley will never wear the two-tone blue ever again, there’s a chance we could see a Titans-Clowney reunion.
The South Carolina product is reportedly “definitely open” to coming back to Nashville in 2021, and Tennessee should consider bringing him back but only at a heavily reduced price or on an incentive-laden deal as a complementary piece. Clowney is expected to be cleared by April, which could delay his free-agent decision a few weeks.
