2 more Cardinals land on COVID list

OL Shaq Calhoun and WR Rico Gafford are the second and third players to land on the Cardinals’ COVID list in training camp.

The Arizona Cardinals now have three players on the COVID-19 reserve as training camp begins. They placed undrafted rookie cornerback Lorenzo Burns on it recently and two more landed there on Wednesday.

The NFL transaction list on Wednesday showed the Cardinals placed offensive lineman Shaq Calhoun and receiver Rico Gafford on the list.

There were 24 placed on the COVID list leaguewide on Wednesday. 22 were the result of positive tests.

If both Gafford and Calhoun have been fully vaccinated, the only reason they would be placed on the list would be a positive test. Those who are not fully vaccinated are still tested daily can land on the list when there is high-risk, close contact with someone who tests positive.

As of recently, the Cardinals were among the teams with the lowest vaccination rates in the league. However, that could be improving. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury said Tuesday they were making progress with vaccinations and that things were “moving in the right direction.”

The Cardinals now have two roster spots open to add to the offseason roster.
