14. Week 1 2015: Marcus Mariota’s debut
The debate between who was better of the No. 1 and No. 2 overall picks of the 2015 NFL Draft started immediately, with a Week 1 matchup pitting Marcus Mariota against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jameis Winston.
Mariota stepped up right away to answer the bell by throwing for 209 yards and four touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Titans’ defense forced two turnovers, one of which was a pick-six on Winston’s very first throw (boy, that was a sign of things to come, wasn’t it?).
After seeing this 42-14 victory, the Titans’ fan base was understandably excited about its new young quarterback, even though the team itself wasn’t very good that season.
