2. There will be no clear front-runner at running back
Michigan’s running game was inconsistent last year, but like we mentioned, it should take a big step forward in 2020. Much of that is due to experience, as Hassan Haskins and Zach Charbonnet were both just getting their first taste of high-level college football at the position.
Chris Evans returns, which will certainly be a boon. Christian Turner had some bad luck with injuries, but should be ready to go. And Blake Corum is already on campus as an early-enrollee, and could be the game-breaking running back that Michigan has been looking for under Jim Harbaugh.
This is certainly a committee-type situation, and we don’t foresee any one tailback breaking out as the lead rusher the way that either De’Veon Smith or Karan Higdon did in their time in Ann Arbor. Instead, we could see a situation where every prominent tailback on the roster has 500-750 yards. We’re not sure if anyone will surpass that, but it’s certainly possible.
The biggest thing here is that Michigan has a plethora of guys who can dominate any given Saturday. But given that there are so many, it very well could alternate week-to-week.
