Washington Wizards rookie Rui Hachimura was ruled out of playing on Thursday as the team wraps up the 2019-20 season against the Boston Celtics at the Wide World of Sports Complex.
Hachimura was held out of the contest due to right quad soreness after previously appearing in each of the Wizards’ seven games during the season restart. The team likely sat Hachimura on Thursday after they were previously eliminated from playoff contention.
Hachimura started off the season restart strong after scoring 21 points on July 31 but struggled over his next three outings before ending his run with three straight games in double figures. He averaged 14.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists while shooting 40.4% from the field in the restart.
Overall, Hachimura had a very strong season despite missing significant time with a groin injury. He emerged as a strong candidate to earn NBA All-Rookie honors this season after averaging 13.5 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 48 games played.
Hachimura showed significant improvement throughout the year and even entered the season restart with an improved jump shot. He added weight and strength during the season suspension and appears poised for a big role next season when the Wizards get John Wall and Bradley Beal back.
