Will the Boston Celtics pay up to keep Al Horford this coming offseason?

After such critical play for Boston this offseason, there’s a very good case to not only keep him — but extend him.

One Eastern Conference executive told Heavy’s Sean Deveney, “What they do with (Al) Horford depends on what happens in the next few weeks, really.”

But will the Boston Celtics pay to keep the band together or look for improvements during the offseason ahead?

The Celtics have a decision next month regarding Horford’s $26.5 million guaranteed contract. If they decide to cut the veteran before NBA free agency, the Celtics could save up to $14.5 million, keep their $17 million TPE they acquired with the Evan Fournier sign-and-trade and avoid the league’s luxury tax.

However, can the Celtics get any better with that money if it costs them the former Florida standout, who has been key in the NBA playoffs?

On the latest episode of the CLNS Media “Celtics Beat” podcast, Heavy editor Sean Deveney joins host Adam Kaufman to discuss their takes on Horford’s future with the team after such outstanding play.
