The National Football League draft has come and gone, and the teams are still searching for players left who could help their team in one way or the other. The Washington Commanders did just that late Tuesday night with the addition of former UCLA Bruins running back Colson Yankoff.
Yankoff, a 6’4, 225lbs running back was signed by the Commanders but has been listed as a tight end on the squad. During his time with the UCLA Bruins, he started as a reserve off the bench. He was able to get some time during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
Last season, the running back carried it just 13 times for 83 yards and a score. During his high school playing days, he was a dual-threat quarterback in Idaho. He was named the Idaho State Gatorade Player of the Year as a Junior.
It is yet to be seen if Yankoff has a legitimate chance to make the roster for opening day. If he is a tight end, he will be competing with Zach Ertz, Ben Sinnott, and John Bates. Washington made a big splash by grabbing Jayden Daniels from LSU as the #2 overall pick, and they also added Austin Ekeler as their top running back.
There is a bit of a logjam, and the position change could complicate things. Only time will tell.
