For decades now, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics have been battling it out as the franchise leaders in the NBA for championships.
No other team comes close to these two. The Golden State Warriors have six. The Chicago Bulls have six. And that’s not even sniffing what both the Celtics and the Lakers have.
But the question is just how much have these two storied franchises won? And how many championships do they both actually have? Who is in the lead?
Don’t worry, I’ll answer all those questions for you right now.
There’s actually no lead between the two of them right now. The Lakers just tied the Celtics with 17 championships during the 2020 NBA season. It was LeBron James’ fourth championship, so that was the more talked about milestone of the moment. But the Lakers tying up the Celtics was a big deal, too.
However, with another NBA Finals appearance, the Celtics have a chance to pull back ahead of the Lakers this year with a potential 18th title.
If that doesn’t sway your rooting interest, Lakers fans, I don’t know what will.
If the Warriors win the Finals, Curry matches LeBron in rings.
If the Celtics win the Finals, they'll lead the Lakers in number of banners (plus the Lakers probably won't have a shot to catch up for a long time with their current roster). pic.twitter.com/TtA9c5gEE7
