These days, college football season never truly ends, it just waxes and wanes between the various phases of the sport — from the regular-season schedule to national signing days to intrasquad scrimmages, the news just simply does not stop anymore. And that’s a great thing for fans of the collegiate gridiron, including those loyal to the Orange and Blue.
However, not everything is so rosy for Florida football, which currently sits at No. 55 in USA TODAY Sports’ college football re-rank of all 131 Division I schools published on Monday. It is a far cry from the days when the Gators were regularly ranked in the top 25 but the program is currently in a rebuild that hopefully will restore prominence in the Swamp.
The Alabama Crimson Tide hold the top spot while the Ohio State Buckeyes, Georgia Bulldogs, Michigan Wolverines and Oklahoma Sooners round out the top five. Fellow SEC teams the Texas A&M Aggies, Kentucky Wildcats and Arkansas Razorbacks all made the top-25 cut at Nos. 8, 21 and 24, respectively.
